LIVING MY BEST LIFE!!!

Just to recap to the beginning of the semester, the main focus was the importance of social media. There were questions asked such as: What is social media? How does it affect everyday life? How can it be used to benefit society? Etc. Refer back to the first blog post for those answers but along the way, just like life, the journey got tougher and even more challenging as each class passed by. Learning and experimenting with the web and social media started with what most would list as beginner’s skills like How to Create a WikiHow and the journey keeps going until there is a point that is reached that was never dreamt of.
Editing, Editing, Editing. Over the course of this semester, this blog has done nothing but explain the blood, sweat, and tears needed for all sorts of web and social media creation and maintenance. Rants such as these can be seen as complaints but not in this specific case. This one can be seen a more of a reflection. There was a huge learning curve in this next project. It is something, many from this particular background would describe as advanced. Edit pictures, videos, social media, live, weren’t even imaginable back in the early ’90s, but nowhere are today’s experts teaching others how to create illusions. How to beautify what is thought as ugly. How to spread a message that is indigestible. Parts of the class, broke up to accomplish those very goals. Now for the actual reflection.
The challenges! Oh, the challenges! I mean, what is a lesson without a little hardship, am I right? The task was to create a 3-minute movie, with 2 of my fellow classmates. What could go wrong? Assembling the idea was the easy part contrary to other’s beliefs. Many can’t work in a group but this one worked out just fine in that way. It’s the schedules the created the issues. College is the war on schedules. So much to do with such little time. That was the group’s issue. There were such creative ideas but how on Earth could the group make them come to life if not a single person had time in their schedule to do it. All 3 members worked and one of those 3 also was deeply into extracurricular activities. If it wasn’t obvious before, that’s where the issue in shoot laid. The group literally had to shoot the whole thing in one day, with maybe two takes. Other than that, each group member was on their own. The bright side was that all the members were all on the same page with the vision and even if we weren’t then that’s what the extensive notes and thumbnails were for.
The movie process got ten times harder with the next stage. Editing. Youtube was literally the group’s best friend. With so much going on, and so many ideas in each person’s brain it was literally impossible to learn it all in class. Other than that, there wasn’t much to it. It wasn’t extensive but it definitely was time-consuming. Some nights, peers would almost get locked in school buildings trying to get some work done on this projects. Since the editing itself was extreme, once that was over, the last part was to prepare it to be seen by the world on the World Wide Web. This part was full of miscommunication. Many videos were made in a different way so ideally, they were in different formats. Some classmates knew exactly what was going on but this group had no clue. This might shock other classmates but, this group had some of the best listeners but especially the end of this project was severely confusing. But with faith, strength, and perseverance the video was finally uploading. If there is interest in it, click Here.
There is a huge chunk of society that doesn’t realize that each person on this planet has their own unique learning style. Edward R. Murrow High School teaches about such topics in their English department usually in the sophomore or junior year. Knowing such information can be greatly impactful in one’s life. One may retain information better for starters. Social media, especially, is full of hard to read long dragged out rants by people who believe they are today’s movement leaders or other impactful beings. Visual learning is one of the different learning styles. This means a person prefers or retains information easier as well as faster by viewing material in the form of pictures, images, videos etc. This learning style can also be thought of as the most influential in human beings. Humans tend to connect better to a topic if another human being is acting out the action. Humans mentally put themselves in the shoes of that person. This is something social media icons, beauty influencers, and branders have been learning recently. If one wants someone to get on the same page, literally show them that they are on the same page already. Video rather than written can be 10x more promotional, motivational and appealing to audiences rather than words.
The subject chosen to be discussed was the politics behind the treatment of women. This topic was chosen because of the public nature behind this video. The way society looks at women currently is disgusting. While understanding the impact of video in today’s society, it only seemed right to work on something that we could have the power to change.
The next portion of the video project was to work on ourselves. Always a self-healing experience! Talking about or watching yourself can be truly empowering, and beneficial. This was the first part of the project that was finished and it truly did motivate the rest of the project. It showed everyone that they can do this unlike what majority of us thought at the beginning of this assignment. The one titled, “Live Your Best Life”, is by far the best. LOL! #promote yourself #gottabeyourbiggestfan
